In cooperation between the University of Cologne and the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts, an Academy Junior Professorship (W1) for “Digital Humanities with special consideration of digital editions” (without tenure track) is to be filled at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Cologne as of October 1, 2023. The term is 3 + 3 years (with interim evaluation).

These are your tasks
The post holder will develop the research field of digital editions in the context of Digital Humanities at the University of Cologne in exchange with existing research foci in the field of text editions and in close cooperation with the edition projects within the framework of the Academies’ Program. The prerequisites therefore include knowledge and experience in editing texts. Experience in working on international research projects is desirable. The professorship is also associated with the further development of the study programs of the Institute for Digital Humanities (IDH) and collaboration in the NFDI Task Area Editions. Active participation in current debates and research initiatives in the sense of public humanities is expected. Collaboration with the Cologne Center for eHumanities of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is a prerequisite, the conception of relevant research projects is expected. The systematic expansion of national and international scientific cooperation and research-based collaboration with international partners is desirable.
YOUR PROFILE
We are looking for a person with experience and excellent expertise in the field of text editions and digital editions in particular. A broad profile of methods and models is desirable, as well as a willingness to engage with new research questions and problems (e.g. large text corpora, non-Latin script, etc.).
We are looking for someone who can bridge the gap between existing research areas and new questions in both theoretical and conceptual terms and in practical application. Experience in acquiring third-party funding and successful collaborations in the field of digital editions are desirable.

The professorship is to be filled as of 01.10.2023. The recruitment requirements of § 36 of the NRW Higher Education Act apply. The teaching load comprises 2-3 semester hours per week.
