Francisco Mondaca is a Research Software Engineer with a focus on Digital Lexicography, Software Architecture, and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). His work also encompasses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) methods. He earned his master’s degree in Computational and General Linguistics from the University of Cologne. Since 2013, Mr. Mondaca has been part of the University of Cologne, contributing to various departments. From 2013 to 2018, he worked at the Chair of Linguistic Information Processing as a programmer and coordinator in several third-party funded projects. Between 2020 and 2021, Francisco Mondaca worked for the NFDI4Culture (prometheus-bildarchiv) on the development and implementation of an image search system based on image embeddings. Since 2017, Francisco Mondaca has been employed at the Cologne Center for eHumanities in various linguistic projects in the fields of data modeling, software architecture and programming. Additionally, Mr. Mondaca has played a significant role in securing research grants.
While pursuing his studies, he was responsible for initiating and consolidating the Spanish department at Linguee, a translation search engine. This role underscored his leadership in linguistic technology and project management. Currently, Mr. Mondaca is focusing on advancing his expertise in digital lexicography and linguistic software development.
