Description

The Reallexikon für Antike und Christentum (RAC) is an interdisciplinary standard work for theology, ancient history, classical philology and archaeology, edited by the Franz Joseph Dölger Institute for the Study of Late Antiquity at the University of Bonn. The scientific processing has been funded as a research project of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts since 1976. The RAC is published by Anton Hiersemann Verlag.

The CCeH is conducting a cooperation project with the Franz Joseph Dölger Institute to create an “intelligent register”. The Intelligentes Register provides a new type of access to the knowledge contained in the Reallexikon, which is now being developed at the CCeH following a series of preliminary projects. For this purpose, the editors at the Franz Joseph Dölger Institute are creating a thesaurus using an editorial system previously developed at the CCeH, in which important entities and concepts of the RAC are linked together in a network and linked to articles and subchapters of the RAC. The intelligent index makes it possible to navigate the RAC using these keywords, display related topics and content and thus obtain a topic-related overview of the RAC’s knowledge. By linking the keywords to the Gemeinsame Normdatei (GND ), the register is additionally enriched with information and external sources. In addition to classic text-centric search mechanisms, the register offers the possibility of visualizing and exploring the knowledge network in different ways.
