Project information
The project, led by Prof. Dr. Harald Müller (Institute of History, RWTH Aachen University) and Prof. Dr. Martina Giese (Institute of History, JMU Würzburg), will run from 2023 to 2040 and is funded by the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences, Humanities and the Arts. The position is initially limited to 36 months; subject to funding commitments in the academy program, there is a possibility of extension.
The subject of the project is the Alexandrian Schism (1159-1177). The aim is to systematically record and analyze the schism on the basis of a comprehensive digital processing of the approximately 11,000 witnesses to the reign of Pope Alexander III (1159-1181). The advertised position includes the conception and implementation of a joint digital work and communication platform, which will collaboratively bundle medieval papacy research and at the same time contain an area for the multiforme presentation of results, in which the texts, selected key documents and their images will be made available to the scientific community and the interested public.
These are your tasks
- Design and implementation of the common data model
- Conception and provision of the collaborative working environment
- Development of the presentation interface
- Provision of tools for internal project communication
What we expect
- completed university degree (M.A.) in the field of Digital Humanities, in a discipline related to history or computer science with a proven connection to the respective other subject group
- Familiarity with data modeling concepts and techniques
- Programming skills in the field of data processing and web technologies
- Familiarity with information and database systems
- Willingness to familiarize yourself with established workflows and tech stacks at CCeH
The following would also be an advantage
- Knowledge of Latin
- Experience in front-end web development (HTML, CSS, Javascript)
- Experience with graph databases
- Experience with linked open data and standard data linking
- Experience with HTR techniques and tools (e.g. Transkribus)
The place of employment for the advertised position is Cologne. We offer you a full-time position with diverse development opportunities at one of the largest locations for digital humanities in Germany. The job requires close cooperation with the Aachen and Würzburg locations and thus includes regular coordination in working meetings with the project partners.
Remuneration is based on the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federal States (TV-L) in accordance with personal requirements up to pay group 13 TV-L.
