Description

Itinera Nova is a project of the Belgian City Archives of Leuven, which was launched in 2009. The aim of the project is to digitize and make available the 1127 aldermen’s registers and 457 account books of the city of Leuven from the years 1361–1795. The digital copies are made available both as scans and in full text with search options in a portal. The core of the project is a community that currently consists of around 50 volunteers who participate in tasks such as scanning, indexing and transcribing the volumes. CCeH maintains and expands the existing system, an XRX web application (XForms, REST, XQuery) based on the XML database eXist. CCeH is also rebuilding the technical architecture of the system and the current data models. In cooperation with the CCeH, the DCH has taken over the data backup of manuscript digital copies, which was carried out by Prof. Dr. Manfred Thaller from 2009 until his retirement in 2016, and is continuing the volume archiving of the ongoing project.
